Without Jack Russell Rescue  here in Sydney, I wouldn’t have the quirky funny little dog known as Scout, formerly Nancy when adopted and sometimes known as Fancy Nancy!….Jack Russell rescue do great work and you can find more about what they do here.

Well we totally agree….good things come in small packages and when it comes to art, big is not necessarily better. Scout and Dogs Inner City have been involved with Match Box Projects and we had so much fun…..just how small can an artwork be….well as small as a stamp and not bigger than a match box. We recently travelled into Sydney to the pop up art space of Match Box Projects the initiative of sisters Leanne & Naomi Shedlezki. They’re creating a multifaceted portrait of Sydney and it’s simple…you pick up a match box from the girls at their pop up space in The Rocks Sydney, take it home, create a portrait of what Sydney means to you in the box and return it completed to become a permanent part of the travelling exhibition ‘People make Places’. A little artwork in the box….fun and challenging to do…just what do you put in something as small as a match box? The results in their exhibition are fascinating..magical and quirky little artworks by the hundreds….the girls have been to Tokyo, Melbourne, Sydney and Deniliquin and display the artworks in portable perspex suitcases….small is good and we love it.

We decided that Sydney to us meant dogs in the city, bats flying across the city at sunset and music in the house….and this was the result…

Scout’s friend J J von Dog has gone on to bigger and better gigs in the US and now lives permanently in Connecticut.

Our friend Tom created a beautiful little Sydney artwork in a box as well…

You can still visit Match Box Projects at their pop up space at 79 George Street, The Rocks, Sydney until 31st July or find out more from their website here.

You can’t go wrong with an empty match box and a big bit of imagination…try it and see for yourself….

Roaming Inner City…. And How We Met Ex Prime Minister Julia Gillard….

Walking into a large pet warehouse is rather like stepping into a stationery shop or a fabulous hardware emporium whereby you just can’t help yourself and become powerless to that exquisite rush of consumerism that travels from your tippy toes all the way up to your devouring eyeballs….it  can be a life changing moment for some where lugging home the 25kg pack of dry food on your shoulder as you try and walk the dog seemed like a good idea at the time. Warehouse is the operative word too, as it can be wearing on your own house when you come home with the new beds, toys and designer outfits and dogs too for that matter after their wax and pedicure on the way out and trip on the sixty five toys your dog already has as you walk in the front door and try and find space for all the rest. The disemboweled squeaky toys on the floor a testimony to former glory and happy times….

Dogs Inner City went roaming inner city on Sunday to discover just what one of our inner western pet warehouses had to offer. Choice is what we found…choice, choice and more choice…big things, little things, soft things, edible things and squeaky things….lots of things…..for dogs, cats and other little critters….

So much choice...

So much choice…

It’s called Pet O and we think the O stands for ‘Ohhh my gosh’ so many things to look at….we bought chicken necks and some liver treats and went window shopping to see what else they had….

Diney or piggy?

Diney, piggy or T Rex?

I've always loved that soft spot behind Miss Piggy's ears...

I’ve always loved that soft spot behind Miss Piggy’s ears…

Think I need a new soft beddie...

Think I need a new soft beddie…

Pet O offer all the usual consumerables, grooming, training and friendly staff to answer your questions….

Scout opted out of the wax, pedicure and blow dry but we were delighted to meet our ex Prime Minister Julia Gillard on the way out….

Just how many Julia's are there....

Just how many Julia’s are there?….

And in case you feel there might be a little bias, Tony Abbott Leader of the Opposition will be arriving in about three weeks….and you never know …  perhaps a certain K Rudd our Prime Minister (second time round) shortly after….

You can find Pet O and your very own Julia or Tony or squeaky toy to donate to your favourite pet rescue at 1A The Crescent Annandale 2038 and their website here.

Adios and see you on the streets….
