Yep we’ve loved it all…classical, jazz, experimental….Richard Hawley, Glen Hansard, The Necks, The ACO, Genevieve Lacey and all our friends who are talented musicians. Music can change your mood, lift your spirits, make you happy /sad. So where would we be without it? In a dull little place, that’s where……Viva la musica!

Good things come in small packages….. it’s the Match Box Project

Well we totally agree….good things come in small packages and when it comes to art, big is not necessarily better. Scout and Dogs Inner City have been involved with Match Box Projects and we had so much fun…..just how small can an artwork be….well as small as a stamp and not bigger than a match box. We recently travelled into Sydney to the pop up art space of Match Box Projects the initiative of sisters Leanne & Naomi Shedlezki. They’re creating a multifaceted portrait of Sydney and it’s simple…you pick up a match box from the girls at their pop up space in The Rocks Sydney, take it home, create a portrait of what Sydney means to you in the box and return it completed to become a permanent part of the travelling exhibition ‘People make Places’. A little artwork in the box….fun and challenging to do…just what do you put in something as small as a match box? The results in their exhibition are fascinating..magical and quirky little artworks by the hundreds….the girls have been to Tokyo, Melbourne, Sydney and Deniliquin and display the artworks in portable perspex suitcases….small is good and we love it.

We decided that Sydney to us meant dogs in the city, bats flying across the city at sunset and music in the house….and this was the result…

Scout’s friend J J von Dog has gone on to bigger and better gigs in the US and now lives permanently in Connecticut.

Our friend Tom created a beautiful little Sydney artwork in a box as well…

You can still visit Match Box Projects at their pop up space at 79 George Street, The Rocks, Sydney until 31st July or find out more from their website here.

You can’t go wrong with an empty match box and a big bit of imagination…try it and see for yourself….

Adios and see you on the streets…

One thing we didn’t do in Sydney…..

Tags

It’s one of those things…you live in a city for a long time and you think you know it intimately, all the little nooks and crannies, the ins and outs of all the touristy things to do and see and yet there are some things you just haven’t experienced….why? Perhaps it’s because we couldn’t take dogs on there…. You tell the visitors who come to stay what to to see and do…best food, best wine, great museums, music, art and if you live in a harbour city the best and most interesting ways of getting around by boat, bus & rail. And in the case of Sydney one of our anomalies was the Monorail…a little light rail system that weaved it’s way above the streets up high and didn’t really go anywhere…it was one of the things I didn’t tell my visitors to go and do and yet a couple of weeks ago when it was due to close Sydneysiders became nostalgic about losing something that a lot of us had no real attachment to…..I had twenty five years to travel the monorail and I just forgot to do it…..until the last couple of weeks and then the last day and then the queues were soooo long it was reminiscent of living in London in the 80’s where queues were out of control, that a part of me simply rebelled…I could not queue for something I had had the opportunity to do for twenty five years and just didn’t do….it reminded me of the play The Mousetrap, playing in London for more than twenty six years and I didn’t go and see that either….I’m sure it was good and then again maybe not…it was just there…like the mono. But Dogs Inner City still felt just a little pang of nostalgia…we had to go and say goodbye even though we weren’t really acquainted…..the little train that didn’t really go anywhere and was meant to make such an impact on our transportation system….but in spite of that we love her. On her last day people queued, bands played, we photographed and waved farewell to the mono….she’s being put out to pasture and happy retirement in the country where the little trains go and her tracks will be dismantled. A new light rail system is being developed further to carry many more passengers around Sydney and it’s on street level. Farewell Sydney Mono….one thing we didn’t do in Sydney….here’s what we found….

Last Chance...

And said goodbye...

Bye bye mono ….it could have been good great…..

All aboard and see you on the streets…
